#trust30 Day 7: Dare to be Bold
The idea of “being realistic” holds all of us back. From starting a business or quitting a job to dating someone who may not be our type or moving to a new place – getting “real” often means putting your dreams on hold.
Today, let’s take a step away from rational thought and dare to be bold. What’s one thing you’ve always wanted to accomplish but have been afraid to pursue? Write it down. Also write down the obstacles in your way of reaching your goal. Finally, write down a tangible plan to overcome each obstacle.
The only thing left is to, you know, actually go make it happen. What are you waiting for?
(Author: Matt Cheuvront)
be bold and begin
ignore resistance and go
accomplish your dreams
- One thing I’ve always wanted to accomplish but have been afraid to pursue?
Write a novel.
It’s time to stop being the writer who does not write. Time to stop being a writer in theory and be a writer in reality.
- Obstacles
My biggest obstacle is my my own brain.
Fear: I am afraid that I will not be able to come up with a story idea and make it into a novel. I’m afraid that I wont be able to finish. I’m afraid that wont be good enough. I am afraid to begin something that I “know” will fail. I’m afraid that it will suck.
- Plan
Start small. 35 minute segments.
Sit down at the computer. Turn off any network connection.
Open a word processing program. For me it helps to turn off spell check while writing. Those squiggly red lines distract me and get me off track.
Set a timer.
Write.
My aim is to do this twice per day five days per week. (Inspired by copyblogger)
This time is not to be used for research online or any other place. Have coffee brewed and ready to go during this time. Have your notes and references ready if needed.
The results of this time can be edited and added to over the course of the day as time is available.
There it is. This is the one thing that I have always wanted but have never done. It has always been easier to tell myself someday or after this other thing I’ll do it.
Now it is time to begin.
